8/31/2023 0 Comments New blackmagic cameras![]() ![]() While other companies have had this ability in some fashion (looking at you, Sony), it’s nice to see BMD support multiple generations of cameras with this feature. The camera stores the movement data as a metadata track in the BRAW file, which can then be stabilized in Resolve using BMD’s own AI-powered algorithm. With this new software update, this sensor data can be recorded into the BRAW file and then used in DaVinci Resolve to stabilize the footage. Apparently, all of the Pocket cameras have a super-secret feature. However, Petty has been holding out on us. Also, any future software updates after this one won’t delete your custom presets or LUTs, which is nice. Frame guides have color options now, and there are improvements to lens control and autofocus. You can now select between recording to the SD and SSD via the menu. There’s a slider for adjusting focus assist intensity for compatible lenses. By reducing the amount of light hitting the sensor, neutral density filters allow shooters to shoot at slower shutter speeds and wider apertures, even in bright settings. To start, there are some interesting tweaks and redesigns to the UI. Shooting with shutter speeds that are too short can make video look jittery, which can be cool for John Wick-style action sequences, but doesn’t really work in many other instances. If you’re a still shooter, this may not sound very handy, but it’s extremely useful for video. In addition to the sensor itself, the 6K Pro includes motorized neutral density filters that can block two, four, or six stops of light coming into the camera. The tilting screen is a big upgrade over the previous model. That can come in handy later for editing and color grading. The extra resolution allows for oversampled 4K footage, which pulls in more details than native 4K. ![]() Inside, Blackmagic has equipped the 6K Pro with the same color processing tech found in its IMAX-worthy (and 2020 Best of What’s New award-winning) URSA Mini Pro 12K. ![]()
